‘We Tried’ – Former Manager Thomas Tuchel Reveals the Interest PSG Had in Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United FC and Chelsea FC played to a less than stellar 0-0 draw. Still, former Paris Saint-Germain manager Thomas Tuchel revealed that the capital club had their eyes on Bruno Fernandes, who eventually went with The Red Devils for €55-million.

During his press conference with the media, where Canal Supporters relayed the comments, Tuchel mentioned that former PSG sporting director Antero Henrique had the Portugal international circled as a potential transfer target.

“We tried,” Thomas Tuchel said. “It was when we had just arrived. My sports director at PSG (Antero Henrique) knew [Fernandes] very well. We watched more and more of his matches. We fought to recruit him. But things turned out differently.

Henrique’s past job working as FC Porto’s sporting director gave him insight into Fernandes, who played with Sporting CP. The German tactician adds that once Henrique had him on his list, they watched more film on the player.

Nonetheless, the move never transpired, whether it was the cost or other reasons. Furthermore, Henrique left his post as sporting director, and in the end, the capital club also moved on from Tuchel.

It would’ve been interesting to see an attack that features Fernandes alongside Neymar Jr. and Kylian Mbappé, but it will be one of those moves best left for the FIFA video game.
