There was much anticipation ahead of the third meeting of the season between Neymar and Alvaro Gonzalez on just what they would do to renew their rivalry. And within minutes of Neymar’s substitution into Paris Saint-Germain’s Ligue 1 fixture against Olympique de Marseille, there was already drama between the two.
With Neymar pacing into Marseille’s penalty box, Gonzalez was once again in the presence of the Brazilian as he aimed to prevent the PSG star from scoring a goal or creating a goal-scoring chance for a teammate.
Gonzalez went to great lengths to prevent Neymar from even getting a shot off as he appeared to almost kick the Brazilian in the face and wound up clipping him from behind.

Somehow, the match referee and VAR did not award a penalty to PSG for Gonzalez’s apparent foul on Neymar.
For Gonzalez, he appeared to suffer a leg injury following this sequence and was later subbed off as a result.
This may have been the final chapter in their rivalry for this season.
