Report: Xavi Simons Turned Down a Significant Offer from Barcelona Before Joining PSG

Paris Saint-Germain prospect Xavi Simons recently made his first-ever appearance for the club during its recent Coupe de France fixture against Caen. The Dutch talent appeared for PSG last year in a friendly fixture, but this contest was his first action in an official match with the club.

This had been a long time coming for the PSG prospect, which dates back to his decision to join the French side from Barcelona in 2019. This move was a difficult one for Simons to make due to the offer that he received from Barca before leaving.

As noted by the Spanish-based outlet Sport, Barca did not want to lose Simons to PSG.

Before Simons’ departure, Barca had been in talks with Mino Raiola, Simons’ agent, over the midfielder’s future with the club. Barca proposed an offer that included providing the 16-year-old talent with playing time in Youth A.

However, PSG sent out an offer to Simons that included a quicker path to first-team action and a contract deal worth nearly €1 million.

Simons elected to choose PSG’s offer and thus ending his time in Barca’s La Masia academy.

Simons has now become a player who PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino regularly keeps a close eye on.
