The winter transfer window will close in a matter of hours, but one transfer that surfaced over the weekend is the potential departure of Idrissa Gueye.
L‘Équipe reported that Newcastle United FC wanted to bring the capital club midfielder back to the Premier League on a loan deal until the end of the season. Gueye played in England at Everton FC for three seasons before departing in 2019 for the French capital.
Despite having the opportunity for more playing time with Newcastle, Gueye is deciding to pass on that venture. According to L‘Équipe (via Get French Football News), the 31-year-old is rejecting a possible loan deal from The Magpies.
Gueye last appeared in a Parisian fixture on January 9th against Stade Brestois, where he played 56 minutes before coming off the pitch. The PSG midfielder has yet to appear in a match since then.
The Senegal international is under contract until 2023. If Gueye would like to depart, it seems as though he will wait until the summer when more options present themselves rather than joining a club that’s battling relegation.
