‘It Was a Very Special Moment for Me’ — Xavi Simons Reflects on Making PSG Debut

Paris Saint-Germain midfield prospect Xavi Simons finally made his official debut for the club during its recent Coupe de France Round of 64 fixture against Caen.

The Dutch talent came on in the second half for midfielder Julian Draxler. Simons only played in 12 minutes and logged three passes completed during his time on the pitch.

Overall, it was a grand moment for Simons in his professional career. He had played in a friendly fixture with PSG last year, but this was his first appearance in an official match with the club.

After the match, Simons spoke to PSG TV on just what it meant to finally appear in an official match with the reigning Ligue 1 champions.

“It was a very special moment for me and I hope that more matches will be coming for me, but I will keep working,” Simons said. “It’s special playing for the first time and I am full of emotion. With the football we play, things will come.”

PSG has now qualified for the Coupe de France Round of 32. With the Coupe de la Ligue tournament now scrapped, this tournament will be Simons’ only opportunity to earn playing time minutes in a domestic cup competition.

It will be interesting to see whether Pochettino will provide Simons with more minutes over the remainder of this competition.
