‘I Really Wanted to Bring This Cup Back to France’ – Neymar on PSG’s Champions League Loss to Bayern Munich

During the 2019-20 UEFA Champions League season, Paris Saint-Germain finally broke through the Round of 16 and advanced to the quarterfinals.

After defeating Borussia Dortmund over two legs, the capital club got the monkey off their back. The coronavirus pandemic put a pause to the competition, but upon the resumption, Les Parisiens were ready to make a run.

PSG suffered a scare at the hands of Atalanta BC but was able to advance to the semifinals. Once they bypassed RB Leipzig to reach their first Champions League final, Neymar and the group were ready to make history.

Olympique de Marseille is the only French club to win the Champions League, which they did in 1993. The reigning Ligue 1 champions wanted to become the second team to accomplish this feat against FC Bayern Munich; however, it wasn’t the case.

The capital club fell to the Bavarian club 1-0, and during his interview with TF1, Neymar opened up about this defeat, considering the Brazil international was emotional after the loss.

“The Champions League final lost, I cried. I really wanted to bring this cup back to France. Unfortunately, we did not succeed this time,” Neymar said. “We will have other opportunities, and we will do everything to get to the final and win this title.”
