Ander Herrera is providing for stark similarities between his current manager in Mauricio Pochettino and former manager Marcelo Bielsa.
Herrera played under Bielsa during his time at Athletic Bilbao. The Spanish midfielder did not end up winning a trophy while under Bielsa, but he did appear in a pair of tournament finals.
On the other hand, Herrera has only played in four matches in all competitions under Pochettino so far this season. Still, he is seeing (via EFE) similarities between Pochettino and current Leeds United manager Bielsa in how they each approach fixtures.
“Mauricio changed the history of Tottenham,” Herrera said. “He is a coach who wants possession for 90 minutes; he reminds me of Marcelo Bielsa, suffer when the opponent has the ball. That is physically demanding. He is a very passionate coach, he is Argentine and we all know how Argentines are with football.”
Herrera has already won a trophy under Pochettino with the Trophee des Champions final victory over Olympique de Marseille. PSG is still a serious contender in three other competitions, including in the UEFA Champions League.
PSG will be kicking off its Champions League knockout stage run with a Round of 16 tie against Catalan powerhouse Barcelona. Herrera is expected to be available to feature in this tie.
