‘He Has Very Good Potential’ — Pochettino Lauds PSG Prospect Xavi Simons

Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino is giving his stamp of approval to midfield prospect Xavi Simons.

The Dutch talent just recently made his first-ever appearance in an official match for PSG. Pochettino provided him with 12 minutes of playing time during the team’s recent Coupe de France Round of 64 fixture against Caen.

Simons went on to complete three passes in the match while on the pitch.

Pochettino is very much a fan of Simons, especially with what he has seen from him during the team’s scheduled training sessions.

The Argentine manager spoke to the Spanish-based outlet Onda Cero’s El Transistor (via Sport) about Simons and his potential as a midfielder.

“He will not be Iniesta or Xavi, but he has the quality and imbalance to be able to develop a career in the first division,” Pochettino said. “He is still very young, but he has very good potential. ”

Simons is a registered player for PSG and thus eligible to feature in a Ligue 1 match, which he has not yet done so.

With PSG dealing with recent injuries coupled with the upcoming heavy congestion of fixtures, Simons could very well soon make his Ligue 1 debut with the club.
