Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe impressed many with his hat-trick performance against FC Barcelona, including Antoine Griezmann.
Mbappe shined with three goals scored and 10 dribbles completed in PSG’s UEFA Champions League Round of 16 first leg clash against Barca. The French forward ran rampant against Barca’s defensive line over the course of the fixture.
Griezmann has watched Mbappe’s star-studded skill set during fixtures with the French national team. And now, the Barca forward sees that Mbappe has what it takes to reach the level of Barca’s Lionel Messi and Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo.
Griezmann spoke to RMC Sport after the match about his initial takeaways from Mbappe’s performance.
“I’m happy for him,” Griezmann said. “He’s been criticized a lot, but that’s kind of what happens when you’ve had someone for a long time, as soon as he’s not so good, you criticize him.
“But I believe that PSG has a future very big star, who will be at the level of Leo [Messi] and Cristiano [Ronaldo]. We have to take advantage of it and congratulate him because he made a very big match.”
Mbappe is one player who has already scored numerous impressive Champions League goals over his career so far, including against the likes of Bayern Munich and Liverpool. For now, PSG sure hopes to see him help in the battle to lead the team to another deep run in this competition.
