Former French midfielder Mickael Madar is calling for Kylian Mbappe to up his performances for Paris Saint-Germain.
Mbappe has been in roller-coaster form under new PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino. The French forward has had up-and-down goal-scoring runs under Pochettino, including his stretch of going four straight matches without a goal scored.
The PSG star is just coming off of a performance against OGC Nice in which he did not score or assist in the match but instead logged five shots and created one goal-scoring chance.
Madar believes (via Late Football Club) that now is the time for Mbappe to truly step up for PSG, especially as the team is now without Neymar and Angel Di Maria due to injuries.
“I think that at one point you have to assert yourself, he is one of the two best players in PSG,” Madar said. “You have to be good in important matches and show that you are up to speed. This is the right time.”
Overall, Madar is not necessarily convinced with PSG’s play as of late. From his standpoint, there are some warning signs from the team that may be of concern.
“This year, I see PSG in difficulty and not in control,” Madar said. “They are in full doubt, they can’t find team cohesion, they can’t find a rhythm. The injured, it’s not just this year, it’s not the excuse.”
PSG now has the first leg showdown against FC Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 up next. This sure will be a significant match for Mbappe and company.
