Former French manager Luis Fernandez does not foresee Paris Saint-Germain will capitulate in its UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second leg fixture against Barcelona.
PSG heads into the second leg of the tie up 4-1. But as seen in previous Champions League knockout stage fixtures over the years, teams are capable of pulling off dramatic comeback tie wins. PSG has been on the wrong end of such comebacks, including with the famous ‘La Remontada’ fixture.
This time around, Fernandez believes that PSG will not blow such a lead against Barca but rather move into the quarterfinals of the competition. The former PSG manager spoke to COPE about the pivotal second leg.
“They already have bad memories of Manchester, which they lost after winning there,” Fernandez said. “I think they will not make the same mistake.
“Mauricio [Pochettino] is going to make them think about it before playing. I already said that they were superior to Barça. PSG is going to pass.”
Pochettino has been part of comebacks and collapses in the Champions League knockout stage from during his time at Tottenham. From the blown lead against Juventus to the comeback win against Ajax, the Argentine manager is well experienced in dealing with such situations in this competition.
This time around, Pochettino will look for his PSG side to preserve the tie lead and clinch a spot in the quarterfinals.
