Di Maria Expected to Miss PSG’s Upcoming Champions League Knockout Stage Fixture Against Barcelona Due to Injury

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Angel Di Maria is now on par to miss the team’s UEFA Champions League Round of 16 first leg matchup against FC Barcelona.

PSG confirmed that the Argentine playmaker is dealing with a right thigh injury. This noted injury will keep him out from the team’s upcoming domestic fixtures against Caen in the Coupe de France and OGC Nice in a Ligue 1 fixture.

Di Maria is slated to undergo further medical tests to examine the severity of the right thigh injury that he recently suffered during PSG’s recent league fixture against Olympique de Marseille.

PSG has not yet officially ruled him out for next week’s Champions League bout against Barca, but manager Mauricio Pochettino did allude that this decision is expected to be an inevitable one.

“As the club said, there’ll be further communication within the week concerning Angel [Di Maria] but his participation in the match against Barcelona is compromised,” Pochettino said.

“Angel has played a lot and he’s an important player for us. But there are other players who can play and enable us to win matches.”

Di Maria is currently the team’s leader in assists in all competitions this season. The Argentine’s likely absence in the upcoming fixture against Barca may end up being a notable one.
