Barcelona Presidential Candidate Font Calls for ‘Respect’ from PSG Following Recent Comments on Messi

Barcelona presidential candidate Victor Font is calling for Paris Saint-Germain to show respect and halt its public comments regarding Lionel Messi’s impending free agency period.

Messi is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, which would give him the opportunity to sign with any club on a free transfer deal.

PSG has been linked with Messi, but recent comments from the likes of PSG sporting director Leonardo and midfielder Angel Di Maria are causing many to speculate whether the Barca star will go on to make this switch to Ligue 1.

Leonardo mentioned that Messi is essentially on the team’s transfer list while Di Maria went a bit further by touching on his aspiration to see his Argentina national team counterpart sign with PSG.

Font is taking exception to the comments from these two high-profile PSG figures. Font is running to become Barcelona’s next club president, and one of the tasks on his agenda is to keep Messi at the club.

For now, Font wants (via Sport) PSG to refrain from publicly talking about this potential blockbuster free transfer move.

“I ask the directors of PSG to respect Barca and Messi, who has said he will decide his future at the end of the season,” Font said.

Joan Laporta, Font’s main challenger in the upcoming Barcelona elections, has also slammed PSG for these recent comments.

When it comes to PSG and Barca, there always seems to be some drama between the two powerhouse clubs.
