Olympique de Marseille fell 2-1 to Paris Saint-Germain in the Trophée des Champions. Despite the loss, Les Olympiens are taking some positives from this defeat. Following their victory earlier in the season, Marseille feels like they’re closing the gap between them and the capital club.
After their defeat, forward Florian Thauvin, who had a hand in Marseille’s lone goal, spoke with Canal Plus to discuss the loss.
“Tonight, despite the infuriating defeat, we had a good match. Usually, we are all grouped behind, and we didn’t have the ball much. Today, we bothered them a lot with our defending. They had trouble attacking,” Thauvin said.
“We created chances, we scored a goal in the game, but unfortunately, we took a penalty which hurt us. We can draw the positive that the years go by, and we stand up to them more. We will have to continue to work until we manage to win like last September.”
The rubber match between these two squads will come next month when PSG travel to the Stade Vélodrome.
