Paris Saint-Germain’s fixture against AS Saint-Étienne wasn’t only their first match of 2021, but the first in the Mauricio Pochettino era. Despite the new manager, the capital club failed to impress as they drew 1-1 with the lone goal coming from Moise Kean.
After the fixture, Pochettino spoke with Téléfoot La Chaîne, where Canal Supporters relayed the Argentine tactician’s words. One of the first things that the PSG manager touched on was the disappointment of the result. However, he did admit that he was happy with the players’ performances.
“I am disappointed. We are PSG, and we wanted to win. After that, we only had three days to prepare, which isn’t much. There is a lot to improve and develop. This is not the result we wanted, and Saint-Étienne deserves its draw. We dominated in the second half and had possession. We tried to put certain concepts into practice,” Pochettino said.
“I’m pretty happy with the players, who tried a lot and showed a great mindset, a good attitude, and put in the effort. Of course, they have to adapt. We have to improve in many situations with the ball and in the development of actions. Considering the injuries, this was the most balanced team to present. I wanted Marco Verratti to organize the game, being free on the whole pitch to connect well with the team.”
