Thiago Motta’s Agent Claims PSG Never Had Any Interest in Hiring the Former Midfielder to Replace Tuchel

Over Thomas Tuchel’s last days as manager of Paris Saint-Germain, there was much speculation on whether the club had someone lined up to replace the German manager in the case that it elected to sack him.

As was the case, it turned out to be Mauricio Pochettino. Still, some football pundits and analysts often threw out Thiago Motta’s name into the discussion as one possible candidate that would be an ideal manager to take over for Tuchel.

However, Alessandro Canovi, Thiago Motta’s agent, is ending any speculation regarding the midfielder’s former club aspired to hire him to become the new manager.

Canovi spoke to Telefoot La Chaine about PSG’s managerial search and how Motta simply was not someone on the club’s radar.

“There was no contact with Thiago to be a PSG coach, but he still remains in touch,” Canovi said. “He was not in a shortlist because there was none. The choice was clear, if there was a change of Thomas Tuchel, the post was for Pochettino.

“He has a lot of contacts, but I wouldn’t say the clubs. There have been interests in France, but nothing more. He is waiting for a concrete offer and a project.”

Motta last managed for Serie A side Genoa, which has been his only managerial run so far. He should be one to keep a watch on in regard to possibly taking up another managerial role soon.
