Paris Saint-Germain’s Angel Di Maria has already established his status as one of the best playmakers to ever play for the club. The Argentine is one of a few players in PSG’s history with assists in Ligue 1 matches, domestic cup finals and UEFA Champions League knockout stage bouts.
Over the past couple of seasons, Di Maria has regularly showcased on why he is up there in being among the elite playmakers in the continent. For instance, Opta notes that Di Maria’s 44 assists in league play since the 2016-2017 season ranks fifth among players within Europe’s top five leagues. Di Maria is behind elite talents such as Lionel Messi (57) and Alejandro Gomez (49).

Di Maria’s most notable campaign season over this period came last season; he recorded 14 assists in 26 league appearances. Had it not been for the call to end the league season early due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Argentine likely would have hit the 20 assists number.
Di Maria is certainly in the conversation for being among the top playmakers in the world today.
