The 2020-21 Ligue 1 season hasn’t been an easy one for Paris Saint-Germain. The capital club has fought and clawed for every point, and even then, it’s not enough for them to sit atop the league as Olympique Lyonnais and Lille OSC have occupied that position at times.
Despite Les Parisiens struggling to have a stranglehold on the league, they remain the favorites to win Ligue 1. According to the sports data company Opta (via Culture PSG), PSG has the best percentage to come out as the French league’s winners.
Even with PSG going through a coaching change and playing uninspiring football, Opta‘s model gives the reigning Ligue 1 champions a 79.3-percent to win the league and finish with 83 points.
The club that will give PSG a run for their money will be Lyon. Opta’s model gives them a 17.9-percent chance to win Ligue 1, but in the end, it places Lyon in second place with 76 points.
If PSG can come away with the Ligue 1 trophy, they will have earned it with the number of clubs they had to fend off.
