Report: Di Maria Expected to be a Key Player for New PSG Manager Pochettino

Over the last fixtures of Thomas Tuchel’s run at Paris Saint-Germain, Angel Di Maria had begun to fall out of favor with the German manager. Di Maria was among PSG’s top performers last season and has continued to chip in with key goal contributions over this season, but Tuchel felt otherwise with the midfielder’s form.

Before departing from PSG, the German manager noted that Di Maria “lacked spark” with his play.

Now with Tuchel out of the club and Mauricio Pochettino in as the Ligue 1 side’s new manager, Di Maria may have a chance to open up a new slate with the Argentine coach.

A report from La Gazzetta dell Sport (via Le10Sport) notes that Di Maria is expected to be an important player for the former Tottenham manager.

The report adds that Di Maria was gradually heading toward a departure under Tuchel. But with PSG’s call to hire Pochettino as its new manager, the trend is now for Di Maria to move toward a new contract deal with the club.

Pochettino is known for using a 4-2-3-1 setup, so with Di Maria in the fold, the midfielder could be used as a winger out wide or as a central attacking midfielder. This could be vital for the Argentine playmaker, especially as he is still slated to become a free agent at the end of the season.
