PSG Sporting Director Leonardo Makes a Convincing Case on Why Mbappe Should Stay On With the Club

Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo will soon be facing a major task in attempting to persuade Kylian Mbappe to stay with the club. But for Leonardo, he believes that Mbappe will be best off in prolonging his tenure at PSG.

Mbappe has yet to provide a signal or give a strong indication towards whether he plans on staying at PSG. He is slated to become a free agent a year following this season, which would make him eligible to sign a free transfer agreement with any club. This scenario is not one in which PSG would like to face.

Leonardo is aspiring to see Mbappe stay with the club, which would mean signing a new contract extension deal. In the extended portion of his interview with France Football (via RMC Sport), the PSG sporting director made his case on why Mbappe should stay.

“He is in a period of reflection, and it is completely legitimate in the face of this kind of decision,” Leonardo said. “But Kylian, he has everything to write a great story here: he is from Paris, intelligent, talented and has a lot of humor.

“I don’t think he’s lost at the moment. The period is just difficult, because essential for the rest of his career. But is there a better club than PSG where you can to say that, in the next five years, you will have the means and the ambitions to aim very high? I am not sure.”

PSG surely has been a regular in dominating domestic competitions since Mbappe’s arrival coupled with the fact that the team is coming off of a run to the UEFA Champions final last season. Leonardo surely makes a strong case on why the team will remain competitive with Mbappe.
