Over the last few months, Paris Saint-Germain has made public comments about their interest in pursuing FC Barcelona’s Lionel Messi.
It all began with Neymar Jr. stating that he’d like to play with his former teammate. As a result, various members within the club, from sporting director Leonardo to Argentina National Team teammate Leandro Paredes have made their thoughts known on a potential Messi arrival to the French capital.
These comments haven’t gone over well at Barça as presidential candidate Joan Laporta has lashed out at the capital club during an interview with TVE (via RMC Sport).
Nonetheless, during a segment on the show El Chiringuito de Jugones, host Josep Pedrerol is warning the Catalan club not to anger PSG. In the case of Messi, the 33-year-old can leave on a free transfer, and all Les Parisiens need to do is reach his salary demands.
“Laporta does not discover anything. We all know that there are state clubs and sheiks with a lot of money. The Barça and Madrid are not what they were. We have to accept the new reality, although it would be good if UEFA paid more attention to state clubs,” Pedrerol said.
“With Messi, at least PSG warns. And they would only sign a free player. Neymar was taken to him overnight with the payment of the release clause. Above all, this means one thing: PSG should not be upset.”
With Qatar behind them and UEFA probably relaxing their Financial Fair Play rules due to the pandemic, PSG might be able to pull this move off.
