The winter transfer window will only be open for a few more days, and one position that supporters want Paris Saint-Germain to upgrade is their full-backs. The capital club is reportedly showing interest in is Emerson, whose rights are shared between Real Betis and FC Barcelona.
However, PSG’s pursuit of the Brazilian defender could be put on hold. According to Estadio Deportivo, both Leonardo, the club’s sporting director, and manager Mauricio Pochettino don’t seem to be convinced by the 22-year-old.
After adapting well during his first La Liga season in 2019-20 season, Emerson has had a sophomore slump, one can say in 2020-21, so it has caused the PSG hierarchy to pause their pursuit.
The former Atlético Mineiro defender has an assist in 14 games, in addition to a goal, which isn’t precisely statistics that suggest a player is ready to leap to a top club.
Perhaps trying to prevent a panic buy, Leonardo and Pochettino will take their time in finding a full-back that fits the Argentine tactician’s tactics.
