Former World Cup Winner Suggests That PSG Would Be a ‘Great Move’ for Messi

FC Barcelona star Lionel Messi is approaching what will likely be a drama-filled summer transfer window, but former World Cup winner Rivaldo believes that Paris Saint-Germain would be an ideal destination for the star.

Messi is slated to become a free agent at the end of the season. This will grant him the opportunity to leave Barcelona and sign with any team on a free transfer agreement.

Many teams have already been linked with a possible deal for the Argentine star, including PSG. A recent report from ESPN noted that PSG is exploring plans to pursue Messi for a sport-altering free transfer agreement.

For Rivaldo, he believes that PSG would be one suitable club for Messi. The former Brazilian forward notes that this possible move would not only bolster PSG’s attack but also be beneficial to football in France.

Rivaldo provided his thoughts to Betfair on this potential pairing.

“They [PSG] would be a good option for him, especially as the club has an Argentinian manager in Mauricio Pochettino,” Rivaldo explained. “Messi would also be reunited with his friend Neymar, so he has a few reasons to say yes to the club if a proposal comes.

“In Ligue 1, he should shine without problems as it is a weaker league than La Liga and the Premier League, and it would also allow him to manage his fitness throughout the season for the big Champions League matches.

“Financially, few clubs can pay him better than PSG, so I think it would be a great option for Messi. French football would also benefit a lot from his presence in terms of media and sponsorship.”

Messi has played his entire career with the Catalan club, so if he does decide to leave Barca, it would be one monumental free transfer move.
