Former World Cup Winner Explains Why PSG Should Not Go All Out to Sign Messi

Former World Cup winner Bixente Lizarazu believes that it would not be a good idea for Paris Saint-Germain to make a grand push to sign FC Barcelona’s Lionel Messi.

As usual with a player like Messi, clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain have been linked with a possible move to sign the Argentine forward. Messi is slated to become a free agent at the end of the season, which will grant him the opportunity to sign with any team on a free transfer agreement.

However, Lizarazu does not necessarily deem the possible signing of Messi one that PSG must go all out to accomplish. Instead, Lizarazu sees that PSG should instead be focusing on building a winning project around its two superstar forwards in Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.

The former French defender made his case on this matter in speaking to Telefoot La Chaine.

“I don’t think you can build a project around a 34-year-old who is the best player in the world, but who is 34,” Lizarazu said. “I think they already have two amazing players who are young and with whom you can project yourself over the next four or five years.”

PSG sure will have a major decision upcoming in whether to aggressively pursue the potential free agent signing of Messi.
