Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe has been in the rumor mill regarding his future at the club, but former French midfielder Emmanuel Petit believes that there is one key aspect that is concerning the forward.
Mbappe recently provided public comments on his future with PSG. The French forward did not give his final decision on whether he plans to sign a new contract extension with the club or if he aspires to leave over the upcoming summer transfer window. Instead, he simply signaled that he is pondering whether to sign a new deal.
Still, Petit believes that for Mbappe, he would want massive sporting guarantees before electing to sign a hefty multiyear extension with the team.
Petit spoke to RMC Sport about Mbappe’s contract dilemma.
“He needs to have guarantees on the sporting level, especially on the future workforce of PSG,” Petit said. “I think Kylian Mbappé is a boy who is extremely ambitious, who wants to mark French football and world football. Today, he is in the reflection because what happened during the summer transfer window cooled him down.
“He wants guarantees on the future locker room of PSG. Is Neymar going to stay? Will Messi come? Will PSG fill in its gaps? He needs to be reassured at this level. If I am in the place of Kylian Mbappé, of course, I am in the reflection and I am not signing now.“
The upcoming summer transfer window is sure to be one to watch for PSG. From contract extension dilemmas with a few players to the need to shore up depth at several positions, it sure will be fascinating to watch on just what the club’s board plans to do.
