Former PSG Captain Pilorget Analyzes on What Makes Marquinhos One of the Best Defenders in the World Today

When Thiago Silva left Paris Saint-Germain and now-former manager Thomas Tuchel decided to hand over the captain’s armband to Marquinhos, there was mere speculation on whether he was up for such a grand responsibility with the team. But since being named PSG’s team captain, Marquinhos has once again elevated his game.

The Brazilian defender has put together an impressive collection of strong performances this season to go along with the fact that PSG owns the best defensive record in Ligue 1.

Former PSG defender and longtime team captain Jean-Marc Pilorget is much impressed with how Marquinhos has developed his game over the years. Pilorget does not merely see Marquinhos as a quality defender but also as one of the very best in the game today.

Pilorget lauded the longtime Brazilian defender in speaking to Le Parisien.

“If I were a coach, Marquinhos would be the first one I’d score on the game sheet,” Pilorget said. “It’s obvious, even in Thiago Silva’s time, he was the best of them all. He is technically reliable, intelligent in the game, good on the man and, unlike many central defenders, he is tonic and does not lack speed.”

PSG’s coaching staff can surely attest to Marquinhos’ grand improvement and work as a defender.
