If there was one player who needed a strong performance in Paris Saint-Germain’s home Ligue 1 fixture against Montpellier, it was Kylian Mbappe. The French forward entered the fixture riding a four-match goalless streak.
In the end, Mbappe silenced critics, as he logged two goals and an assist in the match.
Angel Di Maria assisted Mbappe for his first goal of the match, and overall, the Argentine was pleased to see the PSG forward put together such a decisive performance.
The Argentine playmaker spoke after the match (via Le10Sport) on just what it means to see Mbappe deliver such a pivotal performance for the team.
“I’m happy for Kylian,” Di Maria said. “We were all very happy for him. He was in a not-so-good, not-so-positive time, but he continued to work. He had a great match, he ran a lot and we are all satisfied.”
Even with Mbappe’s short goalless streak, he still leads Ligue 1 in goals this season with 14. He has also logged six assists in league play this season. This number puts him on par to surpass his career-high for assists in a single Ligue 1 season with eight, which he accomplished twice in the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 Ligue 1 seasons.
