Video: ‘My Goal Was Not to Hurt Him’ – Lyon’s Thiago Mendes Offers an Apology After Injuring Neymar

Olympique Lyonnais went into the Parc des Princes where they picked a 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain. Despite the capital club giving up first place atop of the Ligue 1 table, it took a backseat to Neymar’s injury towards the end of the fixture.

A dirty tackle from Thiago Mendes resulted in the 28-year-old leaving the match on a stretcher. A day later, the Lyon midfielder sent out a video on social media apologizing to his compatriot for the injury.

“Mistakes do happen, but I’m here to apologize to Neymar and offer him my sincere apologies,” Mendes wrote. “I hope it was nothing serious. My goal was not to hurt him. Everyone knows that Neymar is the best player in the world, said the Lyon player. I hope he is well, that he is not serious and that ‘he will be able to recover quickly. I apologize again.”
