Last week, Paris Saint-Germain youth product Timothée Pembélé started his first game for the capital club against FC Girondins de Bordeaux, which didn’t go as planned for the 18-year-old defender.
In an attempt to clear a ball off a corner-kick set-piece, Pembélé accidentally headed the ball into his net for an own-goal. Despite the mistake, manager Thomas Tuchel sent him out as a starter once again versus Montpellier HSC.
The teenager played all 90 minutes where he won seven of 17 ground duels, two clearances, and two interceptions on the defensive end, according to SofaScore. There’s plenty of room for improvement, but it’s an excellent bounce-back match after dealing with some adversity from last week.
After the 3-1 win over Montpellier, Pembélé spoke with PSG TV to discuss his and the squad’s performance.
“I felt good, like the team. We had a good game defensively. We were good offensively. We respected the coach’s playing system, so he is happy, and we are too,” Pembélé said. “After Wednesday’s victory, we had to win today to prepare well for Tuesday’s match. As the team is fairly homogeneous, the coach has to make a turn, but for that, the players who are in the rotation have to show that they can have a good match.”
