Staring the UEFA Europa League dead between the eyes, Paris Saint-Germain rallied to defeat Manchester United 3-1 at Old Trafford to all but assure them a place in the knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League.
On the latest episode of The 1970, I’m joined by my co-host Marc Damon to discuss the win over the Red Devils, whether the #TuchelOut movement is still going strong, Neymar’s post-game comments about Lionel Messi, and what in the world is going on with Mbappé?
We open the show with a discussion about how under Tuchel, PSG has become a team that doesn’t wilt under pressure. We’ve seen it a few times under Tuchel now and whether you agree with his tactics or not, you can’t deny that the team shows up when their backs are up against the wall.
PSG’s two superstars made news recently but for very different reasons. After the Manchester United match, Neymar said, “what I want most of all is to play with Messi again.” There’s been further reporting that in fact a deal is being discussed at the Parc des Princes. Would this be a good move for PSG or should they focus on signing Mbappé to an extension?
Speaking of the Frenchman, it’s not been well over a year since Mbappé has scored in the Champions League. Is his contract situation distracting him or is it Tuchel’s offensive strategy holding him back?
We close out the show by answering questions sent in by listeners via Twitter.
