Paris Saint-Germain elected to make the sudden decision to sack manager Thomas Tuchel while bringing in Mauricio Pochettino to then fill the vacant role. Tuchel had just finished the first half of the season where PSG finished first in its UEFA Champions League group, but it also sits in third place in the Ligue 1 standings.

PSG has had one roller-coaster season over the first half of the campaign, to which many players on the team can pinpoint several reasons as to why the club is off to such a start. For one, PSG players privately questioned Tuchel’s game plan that heavily relied on star forwards Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, according to a report from Le Parisien.

PSG players were not much of a fan as to why Tuchel did not expand his tactical game plan so as to not place much of the attacking responsibilities on this duo. More so, they were surprised and, as the report points out, the frustration centered on Tuchel’s plan of “giving the ball to Neymar and/or Kylian Mbappe, and then we’ll see.”

Tuchel did not only have slight issues with the players. As the report also points out, Tuchel privately sparred with PSG sporting director Leonardo over the club’s transparency regarding transfers. Tuchel was not a fan of the fact that Leonardo did not share transfer updates with him, as the German manager often found out about such rumors and reports in the press.

This was evident for Tuchel, as he voiced his frustrations with PSG’s slow recent summer transfer window. He publicly spoke about the dire need for the club to bring in depth reinforcements, especially as the team had lost several players over the transfer window, including defender Thiago Silva.

Tuchel is now a free agent manager as he departs the club having won six trophies.
