Report: Neymar and Mbappe Likely to Miss Ligue 1 Fixture Against Montpellier

Paris Saint-Germain is currently on a rare two-game winless streak in Ligue 1 play. Thomas Tuchel’s side fell to AS Monaco in dramatic fashion by a 3-2 final score and then drew level with Bordeaux in a 2-2 stalemate last week. PSG is in need of a win in its upcoming league fixture against Montpellier to keep its slim league lead intact, but the club may have to do so without its superstar forwards.

PSG forwards Neymar and Kylian Mbappe are currently not expected to play against Montpellier, according to a report from Le Parisien. Both players are not dealing with injuries, nor is PSG leaning towards keeping them out of the fixture due to any precautionary reasons. Instead, fatigue is the central reason as to why PSG may have to move forward with the contest without the two goal-scoring talents.

Neymar is deemed to be “very tired” following the fixture against Manchester United while Mbappe is not currently slated to play against Montpellier due to fatigue-related reasons as well. PSG will play in its final UEFA Champions League group stage fixture of the season next week against Istanbul Basaksehir. A win for PSG will clinch the club Champions League Group H, so Tuchel may prefer to have the two star forwards fresh and fit to play in this fixture instead.

With both Neymar and Mbappe set to be rested against Montpellier, Angel Di Maria is expected to earn a start for the team upfront. He did not earn a start in PSG’s last two matches, so this will be a key opportunity for the Argentine to prove his worth to Tuchel and the coaching staff.
