The summer transfer window next year is slated to be one of the most anticipated in years due to the vast amount of players who will become free agents, including Olympique Lyonnais forward Memphis Depay. Unless the Dutch forward signs a contract extension deal with Lyon before the summer window, he will be able to sign with any team on a free transfer agreement next year.
For the moment, Depay remains on Barcelona’s radar for a possible winter transfer window deal. He was close to signing with Barca over the recent summer transfer window, and now there is a current dilemma within the club about whether to push to sign the talent over the upcoming winter window.
Nonetheless, Paris Saint-Germain is emerging as a wild card in the Depay sweepstakes.
Le Parisien touched on the links between the Lyon talent and PSG. According to the report, those close to Depay have confirmed the interest of PSG in the talent.
More so, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe could potentially play a key role in bringing Depay to the club if PSG pushes for such a move. The report touched on Depay’s “appreciation” for Neymar, along with the close bond that he has formed with Mbappe. The Dutch forward respects the two and also appreciated the amount of support that they gave to him when he suffered an ACL injury last year.
If PSG does go on to battle with Barca for Depay’s signature, it may have some leverage due to the keen bond between the Dutch forward and its superstar duo.
