Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Julian Draxler is open to leaving the club over the upcoming winter transfer window, according to a report from the Italian-based outlet Tuttosport (via Le10Sport).
Draxler eyes earning pivotal playing time minutes over the second half of the season, per the report. The PSG midfielder is looking ahead to potentially being among the players picked by Joachim Low for the German national team’s Euro 2020 squad next year. Thus, Draxler would prefer to leave PSG in order to rack up key playing minutes, which could help his case to be regarded by Low as a serious contender to take a midfield spot on Germany’s final Euro squad list.
Draxler has not featured much for PSG this season due to injuries. For one, the German midfielder has been dealing with a hamstring injury since late October. PSG has kept him out of every game since then due to the injury. More so, when Draxler is healthy and available for the club, manager Thomas Tuchel does not rely on the talent for starting minutes due to the heavy competition in the midfield this season.
A transfer deal for Draxler over the upcoming winter window could possibly become a reality for him, as he is slated to become a free agent next year. Thus, there could be some clubs that would prefer to bring in the talent on a discount transfer fee over the winter window rather than opt to compete with other sides next year for his signature as a free transfer signing.
