Mbappe Failed to Score an Away Champions League Goal in 2020

Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe is currently having two contrasting campaigns in UEFA Champions League and Ligue 1 play this season. In league play, he has scored nine goals, which currently ranks first in the league. But in the Champions League, the French forward has not found the back of the net, with zero goals scored over four appearances this season.

Mbappe’s Champions League goal drought is becoming a concern that broadens beyond just this season. For one, the PSG star failed to score a single away Champions League goal in 2020.

In the calendar year, Mbappe played in six of PSG’s seven Champions League games away from the Parc des Princes, including the team’s trio of knockout stage games in Portugal last season. Mbappe did not score in PSG’s four Champions League knockout stage games earlier this year, but he did log a pair of assists. And in this season’s Champions League group stage, the forward did not score in either of his away appearances for the team.

Mbappe has not even scored a Champions League goal at the Parc des Princes in 2020, but he is slated to have one final chance to snap the streak next week in the team’s home group stage contest against Istanbul Basaksehir. PSG sure does need Mbappe to put together a strong showing in order to finish group stage play on a high note.
