Mauricio Pochettino understands what it’s like to play for Paris Saint-Germain. The 48-year-old played two seasons in the French capital from 2001-03; however, the former Tottenham Hotspur manager doesn’t know what it’s like to manage Les Parisiens, particularly in the Qatar Sports Investments era.
Before Pochettino decided to take the position after the capital club agreed to part ways with manager Thomas Tuchel, the Argentine tactician chose to speak with a former PSG boss, Unai Emery.
According to The Independent, Pochettino picked Emery’s brain to get a feeling of what it’s like to manage the Ligue 1 giants.
Despite managing in the Premier League and a club in London, Pochettino will be stepping into a situation where he’s asked to win everything in France and make deep UEFA Champions League runs with his former club.
These expectations proved to be too much for Emery as he lost Ligue 1 to AS Monaco in 2016-17. In that same season, he was the boss to PSG’s most embarrassing loss, the 6-1 remontada to FC Barcelona in the Champions League Round of 16.
