Paris Saint-Germain will be taking on FC Barcelona in what will be the main event tie of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 later this season. Both teams have not been in top form as of late, but with the plethora of top talents on both sides, it is sure to be a must-watch tie for fans from both teams along with neutrals as well.
Marquinhos is already eyeing ahead to the tie against Barcelona. For the Brazilian, he recognizes that much can change for both teams from now until the first leg. But he is very well expecting a grand battle between the two powerhouse sides. The Brazilian defender provided some insight on the tie in speaking to ESPN Brasil (via UOL).
“It is a great opponent,” Marquinhos said. “We will play in a few months, so a lot can change. I am sure it will be a great game, with two teams with great players. We feel ready and prepared to face this game. No it will be an easy stop, we are sure of that.”
Marquinhos has recently showcased his ability to play multiple positions for PSG, which could come into play in the tie.
The Brazilian has played as both a center-back and defensive midfielder this season with the latter being a new experience for him as of late. He spoke about his thoughts on taking playing time minutes for manager Thomas Tuchel as a midfielder.
“I, for sure, have more pleasure in playing in the defense,” Marquinhos said. “I already made this very clear a few years ago. In the beginning, I was very surprised to play in midfield, I had difficulty in the first games, because it is a totally different job that you have what to do on the pitch.
“I try to make the most of it when I play in midfield.”
Marquinhos could end up playing as a midfielder against Barca, which he did for much of the Champions League knockout stage last season.
