Lyon Manager Claims PSG Remains the ‘Big Favorites’ to Win Ligue 1 This Season

The Ligue 1 campaign this season has been one unlike in previous campaigns. Usually, around this point in the season, Paris Saint-Germain holds a sizeable lead in the league standings and ends up not looking back. But this time around, PSG stands in third place behind league-leaders Olympique Lyonnais and second-place side Lille OSC in the standings at the Christmas break.

Lyon manager Rudi Garcia is not going out to declare his side as the clear favorites to hold the lead until the conclusion of the season. While Lyon does have a win over PSG in league play this season, Garcia still believes that PSG remains the favorite to go on and win the league.

Garcia provided his thoughts about the current league title race to RMC Sport.

“Paris is the best team of the championship,” Garcia said. “It’s built to win the Champions League, and they were not far from doing so last season. If the big favorite is not present, we must be one of the teams ready to jump at the opportunity. That means we must simply continue to win games.”

There are still plenty of games to be played, and the race is far from over, especially with PSG currently not holding a first-place standing in the league table.
