Lille OSC is among the contenders in Ligue 1 this season, but the club’s manager in Christophe Galtier views Paris Saint-Germain as the favorites due to the team’s deep depth.

PSG is coming off of a 3-1 away win against Montpellier that ended its two-game league winless streak. Thomas Tuchel’s side earned the win without the likes of Neymar and Marco Verratti, as well as with Kylian Mbappe playing just the final minutes of the second half.

This win for PSG showcased its depth as the club defeated a top six of the Ligue 1 table side without several key players in its starting lineup. For Galtier, he believes (via RMC Sport) that this aspect is why PSG remains the frontrunner to once claim the league title this season.

“I see PSG with its rotation during its victory against a remarkable Montpellier,” Galtier said. “When I look behind, there is fight with Montpellier, Monaco, Marseille, Lyon. Direct confrontations are important. Paris remains Paris, with a lot of qualities. They won this weekend with an incredible number of absentees. Paris remains in my eyes the favorite. I especially watch what happens in the peloton of pursuers.”

Lille currently stands in second place in the Ligue 1 standings, as it is a mere two points behind league-leading PSG. However, the two sides will meet later this month, so at the least for Lille, it will have the golden opportunity to possibly come away with the win in the fixture and shock the footballing world by taking first place at this stage in the season.
