Neymar and Kylian Mbappe

‘In Paris, There Is a Great Player, and It Is Neymar’ – French Football Analyst Doesn’t Include Mbappé in Superstar Talk

Paris Saint-Germain needed a win this week when they traveled to Old Trafford for their UEFA Champions League matchday five fixture against Group H leading Manchester United FC.

Despite keeping their Round of 16 hopes alive when they defeated RB Leipzig 1-0 at the Parc des Princes. The capital club needed a road win to keep their destiny in their hands heading into the final matchday of the group stage versus İstanbul Başakşehir.

In must-win matches, clubs look towards their superstars to provide a world-class performance to lift them to victory, which Neymar Jr. did when PSG called upon their Brazil international superstar. The 28-year-old scored two goals against The Red Devils, but he also had 70 touches, which led to four key passes.

Neymar’s game at Old Trafford led RMC Sport football analyst Jérôme Rothen to state on his Rothen Régale podcast (via Sport.frthat Les Parisiens only have one great player. It’s perhaps an indirect shot at Kylian Mbappé, who hasn’t had the best Champions League campaign considering he has zero goals through five matches.

“For me, in Paris, there is a great player, and it is Neymar. A very great player is Neymar. Neymar is capable of great things. Afterward, we can make a lot of criticisms about his behavior, his communication, but when he takes the ball in his feet, it’s incredible what he can do,” Rothen said.

“That’s the truth, unlike Kylian Mbappé. Mbappé is put in the same category as Neymar, but for me, he is not. Be careful. I am not saying that he is a small player, but there is a star, it is Neymar. Mbappé, to reach the level of a Neymar or from very old, I think he has to improve on a lot of things.”
