Paris Saint-Germain kept one of its key prospects on Monday when it came to terms on a three-year contract deal with goalkeeper Denis Franchi. This is the first professional contract for Franchi in his career.
This was an easy decision for Franchi when PSG approached him about a contract deal. He had just joined PSG’s youth system last year, and it became an effortless choice to commit to the club. He spoke to Le Parisien about what convinced him to put pen to paper on the contract deal.
“When my agent told me about a PSG proposal, I didn’t want to believe it,” Franchi said. “I said yes right away. PSG are one of the strongest teams in the world. It’s a great place to grow up.
“My dream is to play at the Parc des Princes, it’s an incredible stadium. Since I was little, PSG has been very strong and a lot of my teammates told me they would like to play there. When I told my friends that I was going to join PSG, they did not believe it, because it is not just any team.”
Franchi also spoke about one current and one former PSG goalkeeper that had some role in his decision to sign his first professional contract with PSG.
“Navas is a very great goalkeeper,” Franchi said. “He gives me advice. And knowing that Gigi Buffon had played in this club reinforced my desire to be there.”
Franchi will now continue to feature with PSG’s U19 side. If he continues to make strong progress in PSG’s youth system, he may be in line to soon make his first-team debut.
