‘His Name Was on the Table When Neymar Left’ – Barcelona Presidential Candidate Vows to Pursue PSG’s Mbappé if Elected

Whenever a Spanish club shows interest in Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappé, it’s always Real Madrid. However, it seems as though if Emili Rousaud wins the presidency for FC Barcelona, the Catalan side could draw up a plan to pursue the 22-year-old.

ESPN reports that the pursuit of Mbappé is part of a bigger plan that Rousaud has, where he also plans to go after Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland.

Nonetheless, when discussing the capital club forward, Rousaud states that he wanted Barça to pursue Mbappé to replace Neymar Jr. in 2017, but nothing materialized.

“It is a little more complicated because his contract ends the next year. But we are on top of the issue, and movements have already been made. We are there,” Rousaud said. “Mbappe’s name was always going to come up. His name was on the table when Neymar left, but the sporting director decided [Ousmane] Dembele was more necessary.”

These ambitions of signing Haaland and Mbappé is quite the ambition considering that Diario Sport reported that Barça needs to save €300-million or face a dire financial situation.

Furthermore, these claims sound like promises that various candidates make when running for any position, whether it’s sports or politics. Rousaud is trying to make outlandish pledges before Barcelona’s elections in a few weeks on January 24th.
