Marquinhos has been gaining more and more recognition as of late for his keen play for Paris Saint-Germain. Former goalkeeper Nicolas Douchez is among those who have been impressed with Marquinhos’ recent play.
Marquinhos has upped his play ever since being named PSG’s new team captain at the beginning of the season following Thiago Silva’s departure from the club. The Brazilian center-back has led PSG to key wins in all competitions, and he has also showcased his versatility to play as a midfielder as well.
Now-former PSG manager Thomas Tuchel relied on Marquinhos to lead the team in multiple pivotal matches over the first half of the season.
Douchez has been left in awe of Marquinhos’ recent formidable play, and in speaking to Telefoot La Chaine, he took some time to laud the Brazilian as one of the best at his position.
“I do not know if he is part of the three best central defenders in the world, but what is certain is that he is one of the best in the world,” Douchez said. “For me, it’s clear, he is a defender. This is where he is best.
“After some meetings, he can change and adapt because he is a very intelligent player who is able to switch from defender to midfielder.”
Overall, Marquinhos has also been gaining notable recognition for his potent play in the midfield. For one, he was named to the 2019-2020 UEFA Champions League squad of the season for his quality play in the midfield over PSG’s run to the 2020 UEFA Champions League Final.
