Olympique Lyonnais is the most dominant squad not only in women’s French football but the entire sport.
Winners of the last five UEFA Women’s Champions League, Lyon had a near four-year unbeaten streak in Division 1 Féminine. It came to an end after Paris Saint-Germain Féminine won 1-0 courtesy of Marie-Antoinette Katoto’s goal.
Paris Est Magique and with the fixture taking place at the Parc des Prince, it provided some magic for the capital club to end an 80-game unbeaten run by Lyon.
After the match, manager Olivier Echouafni spoke to the media to discuss the feeling of finally picking up a victory over their rival.
“We finally managed to defeat them in a match that was very intense,” Echouafni said. “We were keen to achieve a great performance in this place. It was also the moment to mark the spirits, and the girls made remarkable match in the self-sacrifice, the fact of surpassing themselves. I told them we had to be 150-percent. We managed to score, to make them doubt and maintain the result.”
