The extensions of Neymar and Kylian Mbappé is the ongoing topic this 2020-21 season as both will see their deals expire in 2022.
Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo has the job to get the extension of these two players’ contracts. Everything indicates that the most challenging extension to achieve is that of the France international because of the interest that other clubs, particularly Real Madrid, will have in him.
It will be a bit easier for Neymar because it seems as though Brazil international’s intentions are to remain in Paris.
For Canal Football Club analyst Pierre Ménès, Neymar’s proper calculation would be to stay at PSG, which the pundit considered during his Pierrot Face Cam segment.
“One thing that really caught my attention was that the extension of Sergio Ramos to Real Madrid posed financial problems. And is it the same club that budgets 180 million euros to take Mbappé to PSG? Then you also have to explain to me where the consistency is because I think Mbappé will get a salary that is largely as important as Ramos’, to put it mildly. Yes, there is the covid, yes, there is the crisis, and the clubs that were potentially large buyers in the transfer window may no longer be there or less,” Ménès said.
“I think so, economically, from this perspective, the correct calculation for Neymar is to stay at PSG since I think he is negotiating with the same salary that is still monstrous. And then I also think that now he is happy in Paris, that he has gotten used to the city. We can see that he has been showing an attachment to Paris for a year that he had not shown before. I, selfishly for Ligue 1, would rather have Neymar in France than Neymar in England or Spain.”
