Report: PSG’s Contract Extension Talks With Mbappe Have Been ‘Constructive’

Paris Saint-Germain continues to be in a contract dilemma with both Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. With the latter, it has remained clear that the club prefers to sign him to a new contract extension agreement as his current deal is set to be up a year following this season. A new report from L’Equipe is shedding more light on the contract talks between PSG and Mbappe as the club has already let the forward know of its intentions to extend his current deal.

The report mentions that PSG has notified Mbappe since 2018 of its aim to sign him to a new deal. Discussions between the two sides began a couple of months ago, with the talks being deemed as ‘constructive’ for the most part.

PSG feels confident of the direction that the talks have been going, as the club feels that Mbappe may have a preference towards signing a new deal due to the regular discussions that the two have had. But at the moment, this may be pure reported speculation on PSG’s part as the two sides still have not come to terms on a new deal.

In the big picture, it will be interesting to see whether PSG and Mbappe will be in regular contact over the coming months for a possible new deal. The report did allude to possible complications on PSG’s part to come to an agreement on a deal with Mbappe due to the financial impact from the coronavirus shutdown. But overall, it remains to be seen as to what extent this will all have on PSG’s contract talks with the forward.
