Report: PSG Linked With Veteran Real Madrid Defender

Paris Saint-Germain will soon be in a dilemma regarding its left-back position. The club recently lost Juan Bernat for most of the season due to an ACL injury. He had been PSG’s reliable starter at the position for many of the team’s key games since last season. As a result of his injury, manager Thomas Tuchel has relied on a rotation between Mitchel Bakker and Layvin Kurzawa for starting minutes at left-back.

PSG could be looking for another left-back soon and as CalcioMercato reports, the club is now being linked with Real Madrid defender Marcelo. The report also links the veteran Brazilian defender to powerhouse clubs Juventus and Manchester City. It is unclear at the moment whether PSG has an outlined plan on pursuing Marcelo, who currently has a contract for two more seasons.

As mentioned, PSG is bound to face a significant dilemma regarding its left-back position. For one, Bernat is set to become a free agent next year. But if the club is looking for an experienced and veteran left-back to replace Bernat, Marcelo would be one viable option for the club.

Marcelo has been with Real Madrid since joining the side in 2007. The Brazilian defender established himself as a vital player in the team’s multitude of trophy wins since then, including in its quadruple of UEFA Champions League title wins over the 2010s. But due to a drop in form, he is not relied on to be the established starter for Real Madrid at left-back anymore. Just this season, he has been benched for several of Los Blancos’ key games, including in its win against Inter Milan.

Nonetheless, Marcelo could provide PSG with on-field leadership and formidable chemistry with Neymar on the left flanks.
