Report: Neymar Not in a Rush to a Sign a New Contract Deal With PSG

The talk surrounding Paris Saint-Germain continues to be the contract dilemmas with both Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. In a recent interview with PSG TV, the club’s sporting director, Leonardo, alluded to the ambition towards signing both forwards to contract extension deals. But from Neymar’s perspective, he plans to be patient in the process, according to a report from Le Parisien.

The report mentions that Neymar’s representatives have already been notified by PSG of its goal of jump-starting contract talks. The two sides have agreed to meet soon to further discuss the framework of a possible contract extension agreement.

The Brazilian forward does want further information about the board’s plans with the club, including the current, questionable future of manager Thomas Tuchel. Neymar also aspires to remain in serious and regular contention in the UEFA Champions League, which the club came extremely close to winning last season.

Per the report, salary negotiations will be a “determining factor” in the contract extension talks between both sides. But more so, the view is that keeping Neymar is a much more easy and more viable option for the club than would be the case with Mbappe. Thus, financial implications may not be an issue if PSG goes all-in to keeping Neymar, but it also opens the door to parting ways with Mbappe.

Both sides still have plenty of time to come to an agreement on a new blockbuster extension deal.
