Paris Saint-Germain prospect Arnaud Kalimuendo came into this season with an eye on simply earning playing time. But as it became clear that he would not earn many playing time opportunities with PSG this season, he elected to join Ligue 1 side RC Lens on a season-long loan move. The deal did not include an option to buy as PSG decided to instead come to terms on a contract extension deal with the forward before sending him off to Lens.
From afar, one could debate on just how Kalimuendo has performed so far with Lens this season. He has so far scored a mere one goal over five Ligue 1 games played with Lens. But for Kalimuendo, he does not regret choosing to join this French side. He spoke at a press conference earlier this week (via Le10Sport) about his move to Lens and what he has learned from his loan stint so far.
“I am happy to have chosen Lens, on the one hand, because of the playing time I was able to benefit from, but also because I am starting to learn from the experience of the managers,” Kalimuendo said. “I thrive on the field as it shows. As soon as I arrived, the coach told me that I was going to play.
“When we played with PSG, I found the Lens team to be very solid. At that time, there were no talks yet. But they had come to the inquiries this summer. I understood that they had a quality group. Before making my decision, I didn’t think about the fact that they came from Ligue 2. I wanted to join a first division club.”
Kalimuendo will likely continue to earn plenty of playing time opportunities over the rest of this season to prove his worth. This is shaping up to be an early career-defining season for the forward.
