Portuguese Midfielder Does Not Understand Why Pereira Has Played as a Center-Back for PSG this Season

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Danilo Pereira has been in the middle of a tactical dilemma within the team this season. Many presumed that when Pereira signed with PSG earlier this season, he would go on to take playing time with the team as a midfielder. However, PSG manager Thomas Tuchel has elected otherwise. The German manager has played Pereira as a center-back in several games this season.

Portuguese midfielder Adrien Silva is joining many in critiquing this decision by Tuchel. He was among several players who spoke to France Football about Pereira and one of a few who questioned why the midfielder has played games as a center-back.

“Honestly, I don’t think he’s a defender,” Silva said. “In my opinion, this is not very beneficial for the team. A player who has evolved his entire career in one position and who is changing now. I don’t think that is the best choice. Maybe it depends on who he’s playing against.”

Tuchel did recently play Pereira back in his traditional midfield position during the team’s recent Ligue 1 fixture against AS Monaco. So, it may seem that Tuchel will decide to rotate Pereira between the two positions over the remainder of this season.
